Todd Sigmier of Rocky Mountain Slides has sent me a package of his bars to show folks... these are my new answer to Paloma Stone dropping out of the market, the bars are somewhat heavier but much lighter and easier to handle than steel. They are also exquisitely beautiful! The normal bars are designed for lap and the XL bars for pedal... I use the XL on my 8strings, I have big hands.

If you're at the Jamboree and would like to try one out come on upstairs to the Non-Pedal room and see me. Here's Todd's website:

Steven, I have two Paloma bars, one is one inch and the other I believe is 7/8. Can you tell me how the Rocky Mountains compare tonewise?

Mark, they're a little bit heaver, and a *lot* smoother... and more expensive. I like 'em a lot... sad that I'm not going to be there showing them to everyone... I'm going to send the box I got back to Rocky Mt. Sad!

Anyway, Jay has quit making Paloma Stone, so if you like those, you're SOL... I find I like the Rocky Mt. bars better anyway. The Paloma Stone bars were good for cutting through rust on your strings for sure... after playing with one for a couple of months I could see the reflection off the flat top of the string! The stone bars are perfectly smooth, you'll just have to try one to see. And... they're made of agate, so they're beautiful. About 40$ in onesies, bargain with Todd and you can get a quantity discount, I bought three and love them.

Thanks, Steven. They sure do look good and I'm hoping the extra weight will equate to better tone or sustain than the Paloma.
