OK I'M STEPPING INTO SOMETHING I KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT. I PLAY "AT
THE PSG BUT MY MAIN INSTUMENT IS A BABY GRAND PIANO. I WANT TO CREATE A BAND TO PLAY ALONG WITH LIKE RYTHUM GUITAR, BASE GUITAR, DRUJMS, ETC. I'M TOLD BY THOSE WHO PROFESS TO KNOW THAT ADigiTech Trio+ Band Creator and Looper Pedal WOULD DO THE JOB. I'M NOT QUESTIONING THAT BUT BEFORE I SPEND OVER $300 I WOLD LIKE TO TRY SOMETHING A LITTLE LESS EXPENSIVE TO SEE IF I'M GOING TO LIKE THIS. ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS OF HOW I MIGHT PROCEED? THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN SUGGEST........CLARK

I just watched a couple demos of the Digitech Trio+ and am definitely impressed. I had a KORG PSS-50 back in the early 80's which was a similar box. Of course, the big difference back then was you had to manually punch in the chords you wanted the bass/drums to accompany, where the Trio+ "listens" (aka samples) what you play and automagically creates the accompaniment. Also a cool bonus is it functions as a 230 second looper.

On the unknown side is how this will work using pedal steel as the input guitar signal. The demos I saw did a great job interpreting standard electric guitar - all it really has to do is determine the root of your chords and builds a bass part on that. How it would work with pedal steel where we frequently play chord inversions sliding up and down the neck or partial chords with no root could be problematic.

If I wanted one I'd definitely buy from a reputable dealer with a 30 day or more unconditional return policy. I personally buy all my stuff online from Sweetwater which has a 30 day return policy. They have it for $330 and it has 4.5 stars with over a hundred reviews.

I've never been a big fan of Band-in-a-Box though have used it from time to time over the years. I always prefer stand alone hardware over anything running on a PC so might actually buy one of these Winking

Clark, I've had one for years and have yet to really use it. I think once you get the hang of it, you will like it. I watched several youtube videos on its use and I see how well it works. I also have a Digitech looper pedal and rarely used that. I did use Band in a box for years, finally quit updates and j6st played to cd's or rhythm tracks. There's lots of tracks on YouTube and even the dreaded karaoke stuff can be useful. I have owned and used a number of Roland and Boss drum machine . I hope you enjoy the benefits of the Trio.

I picked up the original Trio (predecessor to the Trio+) after reading this thread, and I'm finding it very handy for making recordings while holed up at home.
