I got this guitar in a trade deal... guitar looks ok from 10 feet away, but not so good if you get closer to it... screws screwed into back apron, missing original control plate , and destroyed changers being the biggest issue... Henry and I decided this guitar deserves to be restored so here it is... I got a control plate from Johnnie King , brand new changers from Dean Chance, and mica to repair rear apron from Mark Gilles ... and here it goes... guitar is completely disassembled, and cleaned, and will be reflocked , all parts buffed and cleaned , old destroyed changers replaced by awesome brand new Dean Chance changers, and rear screw holes plugged and fixed, and new period correct mica installed... if you have any questions I’m sure Henry will gladly give you an answer... here are few pix... this 1968 guitar will be freaking awesome, and will be turning heads again ... I’m so excited to see it when it gets done, I feel like a kid in a candy store...

changers look like they’ve been filed down or something... one has a broken pin, so someone drilled an extra hole, and stick in another pin.

yup, it had to be done with a file or a dremel tool , I don’t believe strings could do that ....

I just can't imagine that people beat up their belongings like that! I have 40+ yr. old guitars and other toys that pretty much look as new as the day I purchased them.

Henry restored for me several guitars in worse condition then this... we saved some severely damaged vintage Emmons push pulls, ZUM’s and Promats ... Mike Scaggs, Jeff Surratt, Billy Knowles, Frank Carter, Lynn Stafford and some others , helped me save many other Sho Buds, Excels etc... you would not believe what some people would do to their guitars...for this 1968 we are getting help from Mark Gilles, Dean Chance , and some other people... in every resto job, there is several people involved, helping with getting right parts , giving advices etc... I just finance the whole project , the other guys are who gets the job done...

yes, but there was many others too... my Promat I have now, I got through a forum friend who told me about Promat for sale at some small town music shop... I called them and the pictures of the guitar, it was a mess, parts hanging down , up under the guitar, missing tuning keys, etc ... someone already started to part that guitar out ... I bought it, and had them ship it to Henry, who then repaired and fixed the whole thing... it is sitting in my bedroom right now, looking and playing like new

A real beauty! Kudos to you for rescuing all of the basket cases!

Still, anyone who turns a several thousand dollar guitar into junk is just plum crazy.

Drilling and installing that new pin in the changer was quite the DIY hack, lol.

Damir,
When did Promats first come available.
That guitar couldn't have been that old.

this guitar is not that old, it’s ptobably early 2000’s ... I believe that was guitar Gary Sill ordered it , after I brought first Promat to US ... I’m not sure when Mr. Papić made his first guitar, I know he was in contact with Ron Sr. back in a day, exchanging ideas and talking about steel guitars... I saw Promat for the first time back in 1988 when I went to pick up my Fender 800 from Mr. Papić ... he had several guitars around the house, some U12, SD10 and D10 ... but they didn’t have the “Promat” name on it, they were all just black mica... the name came later

What a disaster that one was Damir. But as usual Henry did his magic. What a awesome job he did. The same he did for me on a 1982 Classic Black D-10. It plays better than a brand new one would. And sounds like an Emmons should. Henry is the man, he understands the push pull's very well. Does amazing work on restoring. J.R. Rose

Damir,
That reminds me of an Emmons I redid.
After I got the flocking off the bottom it looked like it had been attacked by a woodpecker!
Just full of old screw holes. Very Happy

Erv, yes, quite often these old vintage guitars are all drilled out, full of holes... Henry always repairs the holes before flocking , so this poor baby will is in good hands... it will be a kick butt guitar when done ...

thanks Dag, more pix are coming, as you know it could be a slow and time consuming process, so as soon as I get some more pictures from Henry, I’ll post it... and the answer to your question is yes, Dean sells a complete E9 and C6 push pull changers...
