Topic: SOLVED: Peavey Nashville 400 Intermittent Static |

I recently picked up a late model Peavey Nashville 400 with the factory mod and I am hearing an occasional static that comes and goes—maybe every few minutes or so and only lasts a few seconds. It does this with both my Goodrich H10k and Hilton pedals. I’ve tried swapping my George L’s cables around to no avail.
Anyone know what’s going on and how to fix it? It’s fine for practicing but would certainly ruin a recording take so I need to figure it out. Amp sounds glorious otherwise. Thanks!

All amps need occasional maintenance... Peaveys are no exception.
The first step is to bypass any loop jacks with a short 1/4" cable... there's one on the front and one on the back if I recall correctly.
The loop jacks are 'normalled', which means that when there's nothing plugged in they rely on shorting contacts inside them to carry the signal through. These contacts get dirty just from sitting there... also, their design does not give them much 'wiping' action, which is how switches clean themselves.
If you bypass the loops and the problem is cured then you know where it is! The jacks can be cleaned or even replaced.
The internal Molex connectors are another metal-metal connection point that can oxidize and cause noise. Try the loop thing first.
A professional technician would open your amp and address each connection inside, cleaning and burnishing contacts and pots. If you rely on your amp as you've said this is probably something you should have done once a year... techs gotta eat too.

So, as it turns out, the intermittent static was the result of resting my cell phone on top of the amp while I play. I realized it when I heard it vibrate when a text came through and that is when I heard a ripple of static.
Long story short, the amp is perfect, and I need to put my cell phone in a different spot!

| I had that happen to me. I did't any idea it would create noise in the amp. It's such a convenient place to set it down what a shame. |

I always leave my cell phone in my pac-a-seat when we are playing. I found out about that noise issue a long time ago.
