I just started using this tuner today. I’m finding that it is easy to use and am liking the Emmons tuning. There is an issue with this tuner that I’m wondering if anyone else has had and maybe has a fix. I’ve set up the tuner, with a bracket on my guitar, and am playing through it whether it’s on or off. I’m getting a degree of tone suck, much like a situation needing a buffer. I have a Hilton pedal and Lawrence 705 pickup. I previously used a Sonic Research tuner in the same configuration, with no issues. There’s nothing in the manual that is helpful. Does anyone have thoughts that could improve this situation. Thanks in advance for your help. _________________ Justice Pro Lite (4-5), Justice D-10 (8-5)x2 , Quilter Steelaire, Hilton Pedal, BJ's bar. |

Since you have the Hilton vol pedal, use it's tuner output instead of running through the tuner. That's what I do.
oops - corrected - I modified my Hilton to have a tuner out. It wasn't that way when I got it _________________ "To live outside the law you must be honest." (Bob Dylan)

I have found that having a tuner in line (of any make)is never a good idea, especially if it is the first signal that your guitar's pickup "sees". If your amp does not have a designated tuner out feature, would recommend running the Peterson from the second output on your volume pedal thereby limiting its effect on your signal chain..Sorry for the redundancy, must have been typing while Eric was posting. |

Is it actually tone that is being affected or signal level since you mention a buffer?
I have this model Peterson but I don't use the feed through, just plug it in when I need to tune. But, I thought any "tone suck" was fixed in this model tuner. |

Thanks for this info. The signal seems to be unaffected. It’s more of an issue of a slight duller, maybe grittier tone. Easily noticed when taking the tuner out of the chain. I’ll try it using the tuner out on the vol. pedal. _________________ Justice Pro Lite (4-5), Justice D-10 (8-5)x2 , Quilter Steelaire, Hilton Pedal, BJ's bar. |

Depending on what the input impedance verses output impedance of the Strobo Plus is, a high input impedance input with a low output impedance and a 0 db net gain is a buffer, the Strobo Plus may be a buffer. I tried looking up the input and output impedance but didn't find it on the Peterson site. That being said, not all buffers are created equal and you may not like the sound of the Strobo Plus in your signal chain. I'd try some different configurations, like the tuner out on the volume pedal.
Check your cables too, and make sure the tuner is connected correctly, the right side is the cable from the steel, and left side cable out to the amp. I have the Strobo Plus and love it, but I accidentally connected the Strobo Plus backwards one day and noticed a change in tone (like a blanket was thrown over the amp). The problem was I had connected the tuner out from my volume pedal to the output on the Peterson. A good lesson in electronics, that a circuit is the sum of all components, whether the component resides directly on the signal path or not. _________________ Physicist, software engineer, hobbyist amplifier builder, purveyor of dad-jokes, and guitar player of many of its forms. I used to use a Boss tuner and could hear the tone suck when it was in line but haven't noticed anything with the Peterson.

The Hilton DOES NOT have a tuner out Jack. It has a second output Jack for going into 2 amps. I don't believe the second Jack is isolated from the first Jack, which is what I imagine that Eric did to his pedal. I have Stroboflip, and if I have it plugged into the second Jack, I get some tone suck and distortion. If I remove it, all is well. I would think it would be the same with the newer model too. I never leave my tuner hooked up when playing. Only when tuning up. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I noticed the same problem with mine years ago and since then, I just use the second output on the Hilton straight to the tuner and everything has been fine. _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |

Thanks again for your replies. I used the second out, on the pedal, and the problem is resolved. It’s good to have guys to bounce something like this off of. _________________ Justice Pro Lite (4-5), Justice D-10 (8-5)x2 , Quilter Steelaire, Hilton Pedal, BJ's bar. |

If you try again, put your tuner (in & out) before the volume pedal, then try after the pedal...see if there is a difference...let us know _________________ Franklin #130, Melobar Skreemer, Wechter Scheerhorn Resonator, Nashville 112, Boss DD 3 |
