Topic: ideas for lowering a string on lap |

in the past, i have made my own lever gadgets to raise strings but i dont want to spend a lot of shop time doing that right now.
i am going to use a hip shot knee operated b bender and move the existing raise over to the third string. i can get another hip shot palm lever to raise the second string...no problem.
but.....i need to lower the fourth string.
anybody making any palm or wrist or knee gadgets that will lower strings that i might be able to set up along with the hip shot.
the hip shot axle could be utilized to mount something or the plate and the axle together. i know that there will have to be some sort of opposite force spring involved ala bigsby design.
just tossing this out for some thoughts. thx! |

thats a nice unit...but pricey!...but funny you should mention that unit...i am going to use their idea of that dropper arm. i bought a hipshot b bender from a fellow here on the forum. i really think that i can just make two pillar blocks from aluminum...span an axle across and bolt it either in front or behind the hip shot axle..run the end of the axle out just a little to bolt on the arm like the jackson. put a pin in the axle for the string ball and then a couple of springs and adjustment screws and i will be set. need to figure out a half stop spring set up...1/2 step then on down to 1 step. same principle as a bigsby. spin the axle shaft. i didnt want to get into machine work, but this is more just drilling holes. i use a standard guitar tuning EADGBE. when you drop the D to Db...theres your 9 chord. continue down 1/2 step more there is a nice minor 9. the hip shot...i am going to move what will be the knee lever over to G and raise that to G#. theres your 7th chord. then raise the B up to C/C# with a hip shot palm lever that bolts on to the B bender. theres the well overused B bend and with the guitar tuning that can become a sus4, #9, minor chord etc. thats all i need. thanks for your reply. |
