Topic: Anyone Install “Flags†or “Paddles†on a Stage One? |

I love my Stage One, but one of my few complaints is that the levers aren’t really adjustable.
I’m also quite a.......ummm, LARGE......fellow.
So with that combo, no matter how I position myself or raise/lower my seat, LKL can be a bit of a bugger to activate consistently and comfortably. Having a paddle (or flag...or whatever you call it) on that lever would help a lot.
Has anyone tried doing that on a Stage One, yet? Was there something you could buy, or did you make it yourself?
Any help or suggestions much appreciated. Thanks! |

i have the materials for flat paddles: stainless 304 sheet, 26 gauge or so and some u bolts, but never got around to it. Others have made 3-d or pivoting paddles. If you don't want to deal with buying/cutting sheet metal I'll make some and send them out.

Do you want the lever longer, wider, closer to you, closer to/further from LKR, or what? And make sure you can put pedal bar on top and close the case without bending a lever.

I've done many, metal from Lowes, JBWeld, Velcro. Never had one fall off.

Dick,
That’s exactly what I need for my Fulawka. Yours look really sharp. I wish I was that handy. I’d love to find a couple or three like that.
I may have to give it a try. GFI made some similar to add on theirs. Gene Fields came up and put one in my hand at the Dallas show. He built me a D10 previously, and just gave it too me. What a great guy !
It was like yours, with a channel for the lever, but with a set screw instead of Velcro.
Yours look perfect.

| I made them for my Super Pro. I had to put them on all my knee levers. I made them out of flat aluminum stock. I cut them out of a old road sign. I polished them also. They look like factory equipment. Work well for me. |

24 gauge (.024") 304 steel is a little flimsy and 10 pound velcro is flimsier still but on wider levers (this is only 3/4") should be ok. Unfortunately, stage 1 is going to need a bracket like Dick's.

I just wanted to say that, the flags I have posted above, were all made with simplest of hand tools. Tools most people use to have around their houses. Hack saws, files, vice grips(or even clothes pins), a good epoxy adhesive and a minimal place to work.
Now, even though I have worked for Lockheed-Martin, this is not rocket science. If you can learn to play an instrument as complicated as a pedal steel guitar(and I may be the worst player on the planet), you are well capable of making these yourselves.
I do take these projects on, they are usually not easy because they take a lot of time figuring clearances and such. Much easier if you have the steel sitting in front of you. And because they are done long distance, mistakes are made and feeling hurt. And that kills me!

I have added flags to quite a few knee levers.
But I made them out of aluminum, drilled and tapped the knee levers to match the holes I drilled in the flags and they look like they came on the guitars from new.

I feel your pain. I made a couple flags for the outside levers on my stage one. I just used some kind of aluminum angle piece from a hardware store and covered it in leather. The bummer is that you have to take them off to put it in the case because they won't fold into the body of the guitar. I always put my LKL flag on for shows, it's a must have for me!
