I don't have a lot of experience in E13, so thought I'd ask here:

I have a 10 string neck that I'm going to use for an E13 tuning.

Tom Morrells is the obvious choice, but on examining Tom Morrells tuning, it is very similar to the Leon McAuliffe's E13, with one notable exception.

If you look at that bottom 8 strings of Morrells tuning you get (HtoL):

E C# B G# F# E D E

and on Leon's

E C# B G# F# D G# E.

the only difference is the D moves a string and the G# is replaced by the E.

My thought is to add the top two strings of Morrells tuning (F# G#) with Leon's bottom 8 strings.

Anyone have any advice on the pros and cons of that idea from a practical and musical standpoint?

I tried Tom's tuning on my 10string... pretty hard to get used to. Maybe give it another go sometime.

I like your idea... the bottom two of Leon give a dyad for a two-fret box... I'd hate to lose that, perhaps that was part of my problem.

Here's what I'm describing:

My 10 string D13 looks like this--maybe it will help:

Low to Hi: D A C D E F# A B D F#
