You’re right. Do you ever wonder where these old guitars are at now?
By the way, that’s Johnny Bush on drums. |

Could this be the very first Emmons that he designed and Ron Lashley Sr. built? |

As I recall, years ago Bobbe Seymour was offering a large sum of money for one of those early guitars that had no levers. |

My first PSG was a pull-release D10 with eight pedals and just one lever which had clearly been added later.
I can't tell you what brand as the logo had fallen off!
I suspect there was only a short period of time between the establishment of the 8-pedal setup and levers starting to appear. There was a limit to what you could add successfully to a pull-release but the push-pull opened the gate. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

There was a ton of great music made on steel guitars with all pedals and no knees thats for sure... In my opinion of the great players of that day, it wasn't even a disadvantage.. Most were probably thrilled just to have pedals after playing non pedal steel for so long.. Most of us on this forum learned to play when knee levers had been in use for many years. I sometimes wish I had started playing without them actually... bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

My favorite pedal steel to play these days is a late fifties 6 not quite standard pedals, no knees Sho Bud Permanent. Since the music I like to play best doesn't really need many of the modern changes, and since I don't mind bar slants, this guitar suits me just fine. And the tone can absolutely not be beat...
But I sure don't sound like Buddy!

My hat is off to Buddy working the pedals with those “roach killin’ “ boots! Ha. I play with boots but must be a roper toe or I ‘d be hung up in the pedal rods real fast. |

Emmons Minutia Questions -
When did Emmons Guitar Company start producing strings?
Could the packages of strings on the shelves be Emmons' strings? |

I doubt if they were in the string business at this early date.

I dunno when they came out, but those boxes sure look like they have the old Emmons E labeled string envelopes in them. |

I was informed that that guitar had a knee lever but it was folded up because Buddy was playing the C6th neck.

Sierra guitars once had one that came in as a trade me thinks. It has balls and sustain for days. Everyone in town was really impressed but had no money. I kick myself for not seeing the value at the time. _________________ '70 D10 Black fatback Emmons PP, Hilton VP, BJS bars, Boss GE-7 for Dobro effect, Zoom MS50G, Stereo Steel amp, Telonics 15” speaker.

Maybe...I don't really know. Why do you ask? I don't think Emmons ever "produced" or manufactured strings. I think that strings that had the Emmons name on them were sold as early as the mid-to-late '60s, because I seem to remember buying them in the old Sho~Bud store on Broadway. They were likely made by some other manufacturer, like GHS, D'Addario, or Ernie Ball. |

Right. I was looking to buy a pedal steel around that time. One of the things that eliminated Emmons from my list of candidates was the lack of stock knee levers. You could have them added, but that drove the price up past their competitors. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . The guitar Buddy is playing is Emmons number 2.
It has one knee lever, left moving right. At the time the picture was taken it was indeed folded up.
