I play a Fender Stringmaster 2x8 in some bands. C6 and E13 tunings.
I play a Sho-Bud S-10 E9th with 3+4 in other band . I would like to find a one light-weight guitar that would cover both situations.
Ideally, that would be a single neck that had all the standard E9th features, that would also give me a strummable C6 tuning (or B6) clear across the neck with as few additional pedals or levers as possible. I don't think i would use the standard C6 pedal changes, even if they were there.
Is an S-12 tuning the answer? Please educate me. |

Seems like a U-12 would do fine.Lower the E's a half-step(RKL on mine) and b0b's your uncle. |

Don't sleep on Johnny Cox's D13. In addition to Greg's link above, see this thread (https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=341331).
I'm a newbie, 7 months into the beast, but I know I'm getting farther on this tuning than I would have on the standard E/B Uni. Both sets of changes fall under the low root allowing you to mix/match elements from each tuning without transposing in your head. The one compromise -- the high 6th in the middle of the E9 tuning and lower 2nd in the middle of the C6th -- complicate your grips, but they also open up some cool new opportunities. It plays like a fully integrated universal tuning. |

I have played E9/B6 and Bb/Eb6th universal tunings. I always disliked three things about both of these.
#1 I hated having to think in two different keys. Might as well have a double neck.
#2 I don't want to have to hold a knee lever to play in either B6 or Eb9th. Not necessary on my tuning.
#3 sacrificing pedal changes. With E9/B6 you only have the most basic pedal changes. On Bb6th you have the Bb changes but only A&B pedals and lowering Es from E9th. That was fine in the 50s but not now.
My D13TH has the same changes as a D10 with 9x8. _________________ Johnny "Dumplin" Cox

Zane Beck was a great player on 4 pedals an 5 knees he also used Day pedal set up.
He loved Jazz but could play country on his tuning .
