I've just put on a set of Cobra Coil strings and 5,6 and 7 have a pretty distinctive buzzing at the rollers. I've restrung them a couple of times to no avail. The old strings, also Cobra Coils, didn't do this. Am I missing something? |

Could be grooves on the changer fingers, or the windings too long on the string ball, different gauges from what were on before. If none of the above, try turning the rollers 1/2 turn on the bridge.

Also, put a drop of oil on each roller at the axle. |

Did you try just a drop of 3 in 1 oil on the roller axel? Works wonders! A good thing to do every now and then but, dont over do it. As a rule I think Cobra Coils are purtty good strings. Good luck.
...OPPPS.. Jack beat me to it!!

I service all of my guitars with 3-in-1 oil. It works for me. I like the Cobra Coils I bought from Seymour. I'm getting ready to put Jagwires(Hughey's) on my p/p after I install E66's on it. The nut rollers is probably the next thing I'd check after the strings. Somebody on the SGF will nail it. Good guys/gals helping each other. |

The strings aren't doing the buzzing, it's the rollers moving back and forth in the roller slot in relation to the string vibration. I have to explain this every day to some one, so don't feel badly.
The oil acts as a shock absorber and keeps the roller from movng back and forth in the slot, hence, no buzzing.
The string brand has nothing to do with problem.
We restring many guitars a week and a heavy oil (at least 30-W) needs to be dropped between each roller at every string change, not for lubrication as much as for its "Shock absorbing " abilities. |
