Should the spacing between the strings at the nut be exactly the same as at the bridge?

Thanks

They can be but they don't have to be the same.

It's entirely a matter of taste. Lots of players prefer the parallel spacing and lots the more "traditional" (?) narrower at the nut. Like everything else with this crazy instrument we all love, there are no rules. Smile

Thanks guys. I had seen a video clip of a guy making his own nut and when he filed the grooves in the nut for the strings the spacing between the strings was a bit narrower at the nut than the space between the strings at the bridge. I just wasn't sure if this was ok to do.

Thanks again.
