I wonder how many of yall have written/ write songs?
I have some,our band does a couple,later in the night...( the more you drink the better they sound)
They are well received..
In today's climate,how are yall marketing your material?

I've written a few, but only rarely had someone else do them. It's a craft that's easily learned, though getting "hits" is still pretty much luck and marketing. I'm terrible at marketing, so I don't write songs much anymore. Willie Nelson wrote a lot of hits, but strangely, his own hit records were mostly written by others. Neutral

When I was about twenty years old a friend of mine gave me some lyrics for me to write a melody for it and to sing.
Those lyrics were actually pretty good.

I spent the last 17 years with "retired" Nashville songwriter, Jimmy Peppers. He had songs recorded by most of the Nashville "biggies" in the late 60's/early 70's. Jack Greene's "Love takes care of me" was one that charted pretty high. Same way with "Forever Yours" that both Dottie West and Tammy Wynette recorded. George Jones recorded 7 or 8 of his including "Playing Possum" and "Tonight I Just Don't Give A Damn" but to be honest he was Jones' band manager from 68 to 73 and sang harmony with him so he had an inside edge with Jones.

Peppers continued to write songs and I recorded his demos in my recording studio. He was a BMI member and still had many industry contacts in Nashville. He was also personal friends with Willie Nelson and Hank Jr and often sent them songs. From what Peppers said unless you have established contacts its really hard to get songs heard.

For Joachim, I was in the US Air Force and stationed at Hahn Air Base (now a commercial airport) from February 1956 to January 1959. Shortly after I got to Hahn the squadron I was in held a unit party and one of the guys was near the end of his tour and getting ready to go back to the US. He read us a poem he had written about Germany and a "Fraulein". Later the song "Fraulein" came out and the words in that song were almost identical to what I remembered of the guy's poem. I don't remember the guy's name so don't know what happened to his Poem or if it was used for the song.

I ain't naive/arrogant enough think I got something big written,but I do notice a decent reaction- and that's worth a whole lot to me.

Jack, the first time I heard "Fräulein" was from a coleague when I was working in a hospital, maybe 25 years ago.
She was a nurse and divorced from an American, probably of your age. She sang it to me after I told her that I liked C&W.
