Well it is far from perfect but I guess its not bad for a first attempt. Here is a pic of my DIY Lap Steel minus the strings. I will put the strings on later today and then see if the pickup and controls are wired correctly. Then I have to figure out how to play this thing. Smile

Not far from perfect. You did a very nice job John......good luck. Wasn't it fun learning new skills?

Thanks guys. Yes, it was a fun project. I have to notch the bridge and the nut, add the strings and hope like heck that the wiring is ok, otherwise its disassemble the controls and figure out what went wrong. I am rather anxious to see what this thing is going to sound like and then learn how to play it.

Looks like you have two bridges?
Lose the saddles and springs etc from the rear strat bridge if you are just using it as a string holder

Thanks for the suggestion Jeff. I was going to use that to hold the strings and use the aluminum angle as the bridge because the rear strat bridge is lower than the pickup so the strings would lay directly on top of the pickup. So are you suggesting that I remove the saddles and springs and use it like a tail piece? I guess the strings would just thread through the holes where the adjustment screws currently are?

Thanks again.

You can test the electronics with a tuning fork - it will vibrate and the pickup will amplifiy it just fine.

Thanks Brian but I don't have a tuning fork. I put on one string and tried it and the volume and tone controls are working. Very Happy

What part of Nova Scotia?

Yes Use it like a tailpiece with the strings through their holes at the back of the bridge

Did you make the bars to mount the tuners in?
Also what pickup did you use?
Give us a sound sample when you get the chance. Cool

Took your suggestion Jeff, Thanks.

Yes, I made the bars for the tuning keys and the pickup is a Musiclily 52mm Humbucker. The idea was that, if I could actually make one of these successfully, then I would upgrade the pickup later. I can try to give you some kind of sample once all is complete however, keep in mind that I have never played a steel guitar before, so rather than a nice music piece, it may be just some noise.
