Sorry. Theres a Sho-Bud SD-10 for sale with some interesting inlay and signature on it referencing Buddy Emmons. Was just wondering if someone might be able to authenticate it. |

The seller states that since he's never seen Buddy's signature that he' can't vouch for the signature on the guitar. Well, yes, it does indeed look like Buddy's signature too. I hope he sees this thread and comments on this interesting bit of history. [This message was edited by Jim Cohen on 22 February 2006 at 09:06 PM.] |

I've never seen a changer like that on a Sho-Bud. The neck also has a strange look to it.

It looks like the changer is a triple lower. Did Sho-Bud ever offer that?

The bridge looks exactly like an Emmons. Notice the added strip of metal holding it in place. The neck also appears to be Emmons, with a Sho-Bud fretboard. The pickup looks like neither Sho-Bud nor Emmons.
And a Buddy Emmons guitar with no C6 neck? Something's fishy here. The signature sure looks like Buddy's though.

Here's an authentic autograph by Buddy:
You be the judge. I'd vote "Yes, it's authentic." IMO, anyone who goes to the trouble to get "Big E" inlaid on his PSG, would be a big enough fan to ask Buddy to sign it. |

Ummm... Who cares if it's an Emmons, Sho-Bud or whatever? I buy intruments to play them. If it sounds good, it is good.
I suppose there are those that buy them just to talk about though. To each his own.

So then, it appears we have a "cross-breed" guitar with what may be Buddy's signature? And, as a cross-breed, it may be worth more or less than either a genuine Sho~Bud or an Emmons, depending upon how much value Buddy's autograph adds in the eyes of prospective buyers.
Speaking for myself, how it sounds and plays would be far more important than whatever autograph it might have on it. |

I agree. Also... the SHO-BUD logo looks non-original. Where's the NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE that normally appears under the logo? This looks like a fan guitar, mostly Sho-Bud with a few Emmons parts. [This message was edited by Doug Beaumier on 23 February 2006 at 02:35 PM.] |

I believe the body might be Sho-Bud. I ‘think’ I've seen one or more Sho-Buds with the Logo inlaid with Abalone, but; I would also expect that it would be doubly~hard the inlay the small Nashville, Tennessee lettering under it! And I don't understand why the Big (E) either! The only other part seemingly Sho-Bud is the Fretboard. I guess I couldn't see the changer well enough! I would have called it a Triple~Raise – Double~Lower, judging by the positions of the pull~rods. I'm not sure even the nylon~tuners are Sho-Bud style!

Hey Buddy, I remember the cabinet from the early 70s. David Jackson told me that he was going to build you a Professional using that body. That was the year I met you and your took me to Tootsies for a bowl of chili. The guitar never got built by Sho-Bud, and if I am not mistaken, Bobbe Seymour ended up with it when Sho-Bud sold out.

In 1973 I saw a single neck 10 string keyless on a double body upstairs at Sho~Bud. It was tobacco or walnut stained and had "the Big E" in the center of the apron in fancy inlay. In 1992 I saw Ed Naylor at Scotty's show, and told him I had a picture of that guitar. I made a copy and sent it to him. He said that Bobbe had "beat him out of it" or something, and he really wanted the picture. I'll try to find the orginal and post it. Yes, I bought this body when I bought "Sho-Bud Custom" from David Jackson in '84, along with many truck loads of other Sho-Bud expermental guitars and parts. Johnny Cox bought some of the "Sho-Bud Key-less" guitars from me along with a pedal Dobro if my memory is working correctly. The "Big E" body had never been completed, it was just a finished body. It was to be a keyless guitar for Buddy, the body is all that is real "Sho-Bud" as all the other parts were added later.
I gave the body to a famous "cobbler" in '86, the body was stolen from him, built to this configuration later by thief himself. Now the sister of the original person I gave the body to is trying to get the guitar back and reportedly has lawyers on the case this very moment.
Whew, talk about history! [This message was edited by BobbeSeymour on 03 March 2006 at 09:05 AM.] [This message was edited by BobbeSeymour on 03 March 2006 at 09:07 AM.] |

Whew is right, Bobbe. What with all the duplicity going on in the Ebay realm, this old girl should be re-named-- The Big Expropriated Steel. Thanks, and keep us posted where possible. What a Drama! JZ |
