I have seen where several people have traded out the Blue Marvel speaker in the N 112 for a BW. Is there a noticable difference in the sound? I am considering 12" BW but I was wondering about using the Blue Marvel instead. The reason for the question is I would like to try one or the other of the these with my rack system.
Does anyone have an idea how much power a JBL D-120 can carry. I would not think it would be over 50 watts. |

| your basic JBL D120F or K120 will handle anything that a NV112 can deliver and will better than double the acoustic output along the way. It will be a clearer sound so if you like the fuzzies you won't be so happy with the JBL. |

I have a JBL E120,8 ohm. Any ideas on how this would sound ? I know some headroom loss, but that doesn`t matter. I never turnmy master past 5.

I don't know what mean by "headroom loss" Steve, unless you are concerned about the difference in nominal impedance. In terms of measureable performance the K120 will leaves most any other 12" instrument speaker out there in the dust for low distortion, high output and extended frequency response. It won't get all warm and fuzzy like a Celestion, or compress at max power like a BW but an 8 ohm JBL will still be noticeably louder than a 4-ohm Eminence or Jensen.
If you try it and don't like it then let me know what you want for it, but definitely try it first.... |

I really like the JBL D120's and D130's I have is my Yamaha G100-112 and Session 400 amps. Although they don't handle as much power as BW's and others, they are very efficient, meaning louder with less wattage. An audio engineer friend says it has to do with the voice coil design and the way the magnet is focused. He pointed out that, unlike other speakers, a screwdriver won't stick to the back of a JBL.
He suggested Goldwood GW-12092 12” & GW 15090 15” and Beyma Liberty-8 12” & 115ND/W 15” as alternatives.
Anyone have any experience with Goldwoods or Beyma's? The Goldwoods are very reasonably priced. |

In case anyone cares, I put that JBL 8 ohm E series speaker in that 112.
It was fantastic. A bit heavier, but worth every pound.
No loss of headroom I could detect. That little amp was loud and clean.
