I found a nice lap steel case for my Pettingill P8 Deluxe. It’s a pluck-to-fit rifle case made by Plano. Of course, I’d rather have a custom tweed case by Hugh or Kevin, but this one will do nicely for now, and I’m very happy with the way it turned out.

I have a similar one with an insert for my Clinesmith Joaquin + Deluxe 34 stand and an insert for my Dual Pros. I've had a hard time at airport security convincing them it ISN'T a gun!
That Pettingill is one beautiful guitar. _________________ "The Masher of Touch and Tone"

Man, I could look at Tom's guitars all day long. Such an artist. That case will take good care of your beautiful steel. _________________ David K |

Rick,
Love that case for your Pettingill P8.
Where did you order the case from? About how much and what are the dimensions?
I assume you cut out the foam with a utility knife of some sort after tracing the shape of the steel?
I think I might need to do that. I have a Pettingill JYD, that is an odd shape and the Plano case might be perfect for it. _________________ Four Pettingills and a Clinesmith Aluminum. Fender Blues Junior. Quilter Mini-101. |

Thanks fellas, she is a beautiful steel, and that Lollar horseshoe gives her such a sweet voice.
Stephen, the model of the Plano case is PLA11842 and the interior dimensions are 43â€x14â€x5†The top layer of foam is a perforated grid and you simply remove the foam in whatever pattern suits your needs. No cutting necessary. It cost about $79 and can be found on Amazon, or most any sporting goods store. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

Thanks. I didn't realize it was a grid and that you can just remove pieces of the foam. _________________ Four Pettingills and a Clinesmith Aluminum. Fender Blues Junior. Quilter Mini-101. |

Went and bit the bullet and ordered the exact same case for my Pettingill JYD today. Supposed to be delivered on Friday! Pretty good service.
Thanks for the tip Rick! _________________ Four Pettingills and a Clinesmith Aluminum. Fender Blues Junior. Quilter Mini-101. |

That junk yard dog gonna love the new house!
Tip: when you layout the pattern, place the guitar in the case facing the wrong way... trace the pattern on the foam with a sharpie and remove the unwanted part...then turn the foam over and the pattern will be correctly oriented and the sharpie marks will be hidden on the bottom of the foam. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |
