Who were they? I saw a red Emmons with some singers. Couldn't recognize him.
Garth's band had one but it didn't look like Bruce.
I believe I saw Tim Sergent with Dierks Bentley. Others? |

Garth's steel player looked like the guy that played for him in his first band and I can't think of his name.

Garth's steel player is Bruce Bouton, although in the nineties, his touring steel player was Steve McClure, while Bruce played on Garth's records. The guy playing the red Mullen at the start of the show was Chad Jeffers-he's been Carrie Underwood's steel player since late 2007, had previously been Dobro player with the band Pinmonkey, and multi-instrumentalist with Keith Urban. The man on the black 60s Emmons with the female acts was Justin Schipper, former steel player with Josh Turner, Shania Twain. On the GFI with Miranda Lambert is Spencer Cullum, Tim Sergent played a Jackson Steel with Dierks Bentley. I wondered where Gary Morse was when Brooks & Dunn were onstage-he plays a Desert Rose steel with Brooks & Dunn. Blake Shelton's steel player is Kevin Post, who was once in Terri Clark's band. |

Yeah, I did see a distant shot of Gary Morse with B&D. We only had glimpses of most of the steel players. I know that Bruce played with Garth at one time, but the player on this show did not look like Bruce. Had a full head of hair and just did not resemble Bruce Bouton at all. I'm pretty sure it was Garth's band as I saw Jimmy Mattingly fiddler for sure.
Thanks for all the other I.D.'s Brett.
[Edit: OK, maybe I just forgot, but I think this is the performance with Garth and Blake I was thinking of. This steeler is playing a red Mullen. Is that Chad, Brett?]

I know the Burgundy G2 is Chad Jeffers (Carrie Underwood) and the Brown Discovery played with Garth is his now steel player Steve McClure. He plays a G2 on tour and a Discovery on fly dates. |

I'm not currently on the road with Garth. The steel player on the CMA'S and on the current tour, is in fact his original bandmate, Steve McClure. I'm still doing some recording with Garth but currently hanging in Nashville putting the finishing touches on my new instructional Video, "Rockin Lap Steel" . _________________ www.brucebouton.com |

Let's not forget Jerry Douglas backing Lady Antebellum and Halsey. And Dolly Parton introducing them and mentioning Jerry by name as "one of my favorites."
Pretty rare for a sideman to ever receive an intro like that.
I recorded it on my DVR but still haven't gotten around to watching the whole thing - viewing the CMAs in real time without the benefit of fast forwarding through commercials and certain performers would be like getting a root canal.
But I thought their performance was outstanding:
