I had Bob Rains build this guitar for me when he was still heading up the Company.
I had him put separate knee levers on the right knee for each neck, that accounts for the 10 knee levers.
Herby Wallace had a similar arrangement.
In fact, when Gary Carpenter took over control of the Company from Bob, he wanted me to send him a picture. He couldn't figure out how Bob did that.
As you can see, I have Fessenden fret boards on the guitar. They are my favorite fretboards and they really compliment the guitar.
This guitar is as new, it has never left my music loft.
I doubt if I will ever get out of it what I have invested, but as for price, let's start out at $3,795 plus the trip.
Thank you for your consideration. Very Happy
Erv

Oh No Erv, You really are going to sell your beloved Rains. It is a BEAUTIFUL guitar. For what ever the reason the Rains has never got on top with pickers but I can tell you they are outstanding playing guitars.I have TWO of them. Good luck with your sale. J.R. Rose

J.R.,
I'm not going to be "Rainless"!
I still have a beautiful lacquered blue Rains that I bought from a Canadian steeler. Bob Rains was the only builder that would build one according to his wishes!
I will put up Rains build quality and tone with any other pedal steel on the market. Very Happy

Beautiful guitar! I use to own a Rains SD10 and wish I'd kept it. It played and sounded great and very well made.

This loaded D10 is very tempting but I've got 3 other steels and would need to move one to make room. Someones going to get a very nice guitar.

I hear you Erv. I met Bob Rains in his early days of building and just did not get it then. I was working in Abilene, Tx. and heard on the radio about a steel guitar show that weekend and so I went. He had a booth and I got to look at the guitars well and liked them. Should of brought one then. This was in the late 90's or early 2000. Just can't remember anymore. Time does that too us. But they are just an awesome guitar and I will as you said put them beside any other. Good Luck, J.R.

Erv,, I just got off the phone with Bob Rains.
He's going to look at this thread, he can't post though.
He says he remembers this guitar well, said is was a Honey.
Bob and I have remained friends,(like brothers)all through the years.
I still have that guitar's kid brother, the little red SD-10 with 4x6, man does it bark. Very Happy

Yes, I got along great with Bob and he built me one heck of a guitar.
He put those separate right knee levers on it and, as I mentioned, Gary Carpenter wanted me to send him pictures of how he did it but I figured that was between me and Bob. Very Happy

You know Erv, and Dale, I came real close to calling you Erv and buying that guitar from you.
But I talked myself out of it.
I really need another guitar sitting in the case year around. It could join the other five. Laughing

Erv good to hear you found a good home for this guitar. As you know I still have my SD 10 I bought from Bob in 2005 ,I believe it was Bob's last guitar before retiring and I think Gary had to finish the guitar for Bob and I remember Fred and Bob sold me on the Rains in St. Louis at scotty's. I'm still playing it and love the tone and playability of this fine guitar,
