Several have asked recently "How do you have the time to digitize and post all these videos?" Well, a couple of reason. First, it has been so hot outside here at the farm in Molino, FL, I can't work outside much.

Second, I have recently (3 months ago) had surgery on BOTH my hands. So I have been limited what I can do and definitely have not been able to play steel guitar until this past weekend. So I keep my VCR running (real time) into my computer program and upload these videos for your enjoyment. It will slow down soon, but while I have the time, I want to post as many as possible from my stash (and it's a deep stash).

I am also constantly asked why don't I post videos of certain players. That could be several reasons. Maybe they did not play the convention during the years we were doing video, but mostly because a few players did not give me the needed permission. That pretty much sums it up.

When YouTube came into being, it took me over a year to get all the needed permissions to post what I do. Thank you to those players AND the families of the deceased players for granting these permissions.

It's kind of funny, after my YouTube site starting getting so many hits, some of the players that held out and had passed away without giving me permissions missed out. Now many of their families want these videos posted. So for the ones that are STILL ALIVE and don't allow me to post, I feel that you are doing an injustice to the steel guitar world by not allowing me to post what I have, whether it's perfect or not. The steel guitar community does not care about perfection. We just want to encourage young players to KEEP OUR INSTRUMENT ALIVE!!

So if you played the International Steel Guitar Convention or the Smoky Mountain Jamboree between the years of 1990 and 2000 (video taping years) and have not granted me permission to post video, I sincerely ask that you reconsider your position on this. I can be contacted through the SGF.

All my video tape has now been digitized and uploaded to YouTube. However a couple of hundred 30 minute shows have not been released as of yet.
Sadly for a few of the players that refused to let me post video, those tapes have been destroyed and never to be seen.

Keep watching
Regards,
Bill

Bill, thanks for posting this. I'm sure glad you were capable of doing the videos and posting what you can. The steel guitar world is a better place due to your efforts. Some of the greatest artist of our time was captured and preserved by this. Without your labor of love we would have lost their best years of playing. I am humbled by your services to the steel guitar forum, and the world. Thank you again for this wonderful opportunity to see the shows as they were and unedited.

Here in the UK the steelies are spread far and wide so you don't usually get the chance to meet and discuss players that you have heard of. We have all heard of Lloyd Green, Buddy Emmons etc but there are a lot of really good steel players out there. Thanks to you Bill we can see all of them and enjoy their styles, and get inspiration.

Thanks for all your hard work and thanks to all those who given permission to publish.

Hope your hands heal soon.
