Have you played steel through one that sounds as good as a N400 etc.

I had both the single speaker and the double speaker Valve Kings. I thought the single sounded better but neither one was a good steel amp in my opinion.

Hi Larry:

I have a Peavey Encore 65 watt tube amp combo with one 12AT7 , three 12AX7 and two 6L6 power tubes.

The clean channel in this amp definately hangs out in Fender territory. Never thought about trying it with pedal steel but I will try it out.

Had many over the decades.. The two best by far were a very early peavey deuce with JBL's, and a rare amp in the tweed Classic series called the Blues Classic.. it was 50 watts, 1x15, quite big, and was insanely powerful, as loud or louder than any Twin anywhere, and just as clean.. It sounded nothing like the Delta Blues, or the tweed 2x12 Classic.. they are very hard to find, very heavy, and now very expensive.. It was a truly great steel amp, and I don't typically say that about Peavey tube amps..

I like them fine, but they are usually outclassed soundwise by Fender tube amps... bob

Owned a 'Prowler' (and after replacing the stock speaker with a BW) had excellent tone for steel.
