Can't confirm but it sure looks old to me. Those tuners are a nightmare though. I would imagine Rickenbacher would stop them pretty quickly from building that unless it was licenced, then there would be patent nos. stamped into it. An odd one, interesting for sure. |

Interesting guitar! It looks like a long-scale. If it really checks out to be from the mid-1930's, it's a very early knock-off of Rickenbacker frypans. I'm pretty sure Rickenbacker never made any 8-string frypans, although they started making 7-string short-scale frypans in 1934. If you're not really planning to play it much, just play it as-is. To make it tune easier, those tuners could possibly be replaced with Grover mini-rotomatics or Steinberger gearless tuners from StewMac. Either would be OK for tunings that have a high "E" string. With the top string tuned higher than "E", it's probably best to use the Grover mini-rotomatics or something similar, if they'll fit the existing tuner spacing. |

There is actually another one of these for sale on Reverb, from the private collection of Ben Harper no less. He don't know what it is either. |

Has a particular warm sound to it that's actually really pleasant. |
