Possum fat is one of the finest lubricants in the world. In WWII, Possum fat was used to lubricate the 18 inch guns on Big Mo, the Missouri. True story. Don't know that I'd use it on my steels though.

Small point...they were sixteen-inch guns on the "Big Mo". Only the big Japanese battleships featured eighteen-inch guns. |
