For those who like to play TAB, it is my opinion that DOUG BEAUMIER has it all! It is
clearly written under the musical notation. Therefore you can learn the notes , timing and etc. He really relates his TAB to the writen musical composition. Most of all it has better clarity, size, accuracy and consistentcy of any TAB I have come across.
Go to his web site and take a look.
Good Job Doug![This message was edited by Richard Gonzales on 24 February 2006 at 05:50 AM.] |

Doug's tab is excellent! I've had lots of fun with his tab for "Crazy." |

I totally agree Andy! Come on Doug, I sure hope that you do some more. I'm still picking "Crazy" and the way it's tabbed, I like to add to the ideas. |

Doug, tell me again what program you use for your tab. Is it TablEdit? And do you just indicate the tab and then it enters the notes for you (but then you have to add the durations), or do you have to manually enter both the tab and the notes?
This is clearly the way to go... |

Thanks to all. Jim, the program is TablEdit. The notes pop into place when you enter the tab, but things need to be checked and often reset.
The tab (the number) must be entered on the right beat to make the note appear as it should, the ties sometimes must be added manually, the stem direction often needs to be corrected, triplets must be entered manually, the duration is automatic, but sometimes that needs to be reset, etc. The user has to know a little bit about standard notation to be sure everything looks right. The program has a lot of options that need to be set. That's because TableEdit may be used for any stringed instrument, up to 15 strings, any tuning.
In the PSG mode there is a Pitch Change feature that handles the pedal and lever changes. That has a number of settings too. The program produces some nice looking tab, but I wouldn't say it's easy to use. The most frustrating thing... it does not store the print settings with a song file. So if you print a PSG arrangement, and then print a dobro or a guitar arrangement using different print settings, the PSG print settings are gone and need to be reset the next time you want to print a PSG arrangement. So it's a good idea to write down the settings for later reference. A free demo is available at www.tabledit.com There is a learning curve with TE, but it's time well spent.

Tabledit also supports using ## and bb or up down arrows, or letters.
Since I play some different instruments, I like that I can switch the tab format to suit other instruments (Mandolin and Guitar in my case).
The one program does all.
The developer asked for our input on Steel ideas about five years ago. I'm proud that he used my suggestion for the arrows option.
See them in the tab I did of a Russ Weaver exersize. http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum8/HTML/002197.html
I like to indicate lever actions with arrows, and pedals with the standard letters. Everyone agrees on the pedal letter indication, even if the setup is Day (CBA), but levers are another story. |
