| I have a early 90's evans and a fox modded 112. what all are y'all using and liking these days? Why do most people play? |

You are in good shape with what you have. I use Evans and Stereo Steel. I have had two 112's with the Fox mod. There are more Nashville 112's being used than anything else. For Peavey's, the Nashville 400 is probably 2nd. For the people that can afford them, Telonics, Little Walter, and Milkman. The Roland Cube 80 and Katana are being used quiet a bit too. (sorry I left out Quilter Steelaire)

Fender tubes: Twin in split cabs (with Peavey/JBL 15 in a closed-back cab) or RIDR (blackface).

NV 112(Ken Fox mod) for when I don't feel like carrying big iron,Session 500 for when I do,'65 Twin Custom 15 for when I have to play a lot of six-string as well....And I just this week ordered a Milkman Pedal Steel Half and Half.  |

| Quilter 202 head into a TT12 in a Gregs Pro Audio cabinet. Under 30 lbs total, small, powerful. I've received multiple comments that they're the best amp sound I've had. |

Older NV112 – have one modded and one unmodded, both w/original speakers.
Am always bypassing pre- and eq-sections in these amps – running "flat" anyway, so mod or not doesn't really matter. OTOH, bypassing these sections also eliminates high-pass filtering, so it is easier to overheat the power-stage and/or blow the speaker when feeding them sustained lower frequencies … no problems so far  |

Just replaced a Nashville 400 with Fox chips for a new-to-me Telonics TCA-500C Mini 12. My Nash 400 sounded great, but the Telonics is on another level...definitely an amp for life.

I have well over a dozen amps and most will work well depending on the application. I can get an acceptable sound out of any of 'em and will choose the one most suitable to the volume level required. For playing at home all by myself at a low volume level, the little Roland Mobile Cube sounds oh so sweet. With a full electric band including drums, the old LTD 400 is hard to beat. Other favorites are small Fender tube amps (Musicmaster Bass, Princeton Reverb, Pro Junior) and a vintage solid-state Polytone jazz guitar amp.
I have never played through a large modern amp such as a 21st Century Peavey, Little Walter, Quilter, Telonics, or whatever. I'm sure they're all wonderful. But I can make what I have sound pretty good, and I'm perfectly happy with 'em. Ignorance is bliss. |

I have a Peavey Vegas 400, a Peavey Session 400 Limited, an Evans SE 200, a Quilter Steelaire Pro, a Roland JC 120, and a Fender Twin 15 Custom. I try all of them from time to time, but I always make my way back to the Evans. There's just something about the quality of the tone in an Evans amp that draws me back to it. The best sound I ever acquired was from an old Evans FET 500 LV amp. Tone and then some!

Agreed - I have the Telonics mini-rack and speakers, and it's all the amp I'll ever need. I can get a clean sound over a loud band, and I'm learning how to exploit the Lexicon. Also the three-piece format I find easier to carry than a combo.
The only downside is the usual worry that one day my wife will sell it for what she believes it's worth.

I agree on Evans. I have a rack with an Evans pre-amp that feeds through the power amp of a Stereo Steel. I can go back and forth between these two amps by just moving my cord. I have an Evans SE 200 for practice and backup. Everything loaded with JBL D-130 speakers
I have owned every steel amp except the high end boutique amps that I can't afford. The Evans\Stereo Steel combination is the best it gets to my ears. |

what amp ?
Well I doubt I am odd guy out but I have several in the stable which are selected for various gigs or venues. One single amp is not a solution for me. Several amps, they are tools.
Steel only- Nashville 112
Double Duty ( Steel and Guitar) depends on the venue and size of the room. This is my typical gig.
HR Deville 2 x 12 medium to large, OR UNKNOWN
Carvin Nomad 1 x 12 medium
DV Mark Little Jazz, small room
Guitars only , medium to large - HR Deville, but usually the Dr Z Maz 38, head and cab .
small room - small contained space - Blues Jr.
I don't own a hi powered "for" Steel amp anymore.
The Dr Z Maz 38 can handle the Steel clean but I prefer to not carry two pieces .

and maybe soon a Session 500 if I get it in a trade

For smaller jams I've been using my modded red knob Fender Champ 12. The reverb on it is horrible though, so I use an analog delay (Carl Martin Red Repeat).
If I'm playing with a drummer I use my Steel King.
