So I am trying to learn the C6 tuning from my "how to transition from guitar" post, and I can't quite figure out how to play dom7 chords. I have in mind playing simple tunes with II-V-I progressions, and I don't know how to play the V chord... The best I can figure has no third so it's kind of ambiguous as to major or minor. Or playing a major chord with no flat 7. Or maybe a major 9 chord with no 7. Tips please!

Hmmm...well, if you're an 8 string player, you should consider the Jules Ah See C13, which has a Bb on the 7th string and you can get some great rich V7 chords (albeit up 7 frets).

The other really useful V7 I find, for either C13 or any normal C6 (including 6 string), is a split bar slant just right above your root position. Say you're on the fifth fret for your root. F6...your dominant seventh is C7. What you do with the bar is shift up two frets with the nose to land right between the second and third strings equally, on fret 7, and the fifth string on fret 6. This gives you a b7-3-5 chord that's very easy to resolve back to the tonic, since you are right there within a fret or two. That shape is probably my favorite for seventh chords, outside of the 8 string C13 seventh chords, and an occasional open C7 by barring the 3rd string at fret 1 (useful for Barney Isaacs type stuff).
