Topic: Lighter weight alternative to old Nashville 112 |

| Pretty much a bedroom player. Been looking around for a lighter weight alternative to my old Nashville 112 that still sounds good at low volume. Starting to research the two Katana amps. (I use a Princeton clone for guitar). The versatility of the Katana amps have a certain appeal but if they're not gonna sound any good with my steel they would be a bad choice. I only play E9. |

| If you’re a bedroom player, weight shouldn’t matter. If you like the sound of the 112, keep it. If weight does matter, put a neo speaker in it. |

I have a Telonics installed in a Nashville 112. Weight is 35lbs.
I've heard two different steeler's with those Katana amps and based on those two (who have sold them and moved on) you couldn't give me one. |

| Most Steelers select their amps according to sound and what fits their needs. From what you are saying, I think you would be hard pressed to find anything else that will fill your needs any better than the 112. Weight is not a big issue when you rarely go out. Get a folding hand truck if you have to carry it very far or get some assistance from a fellow band member. |

I like my Roland Cube 40XL... sounds great at low volumes. It's lightweight and small... 10" speaker, it fits on the back of my Harley with my lap-steel. I've taken it to medium-volume jams with no problems.
What I'm thinking you're trying to say is that your N112 doesn't sound good at low volumes? Otherwise, why change?
Amps sound best above half their power... the 40XL has a reduced-power switch (Power Squeezer) to lower its headroom and output.
That said, best for bedroom volume is my Roland Mobile Cube... a small 5watt stereo amp with built-in stereo reverb, will sit on a mic stand or photo tripod, battery-powered, with adapters available for wall power. I believe Bobby Ingano uses this model... I know Kevin Brown relies on it for his sound, even when on stage.

| I've been looking in to this for awhile. The 112 sounds fine, but I have limited, cramped quarters. And if I go above half volume might get the neighbors on me. The amp sits under a table or in a closet where I have to drag it out when I want to use it, then have to put it away so no one trips over it! Was thinking about something smaller, lighter and more compact that I could just leave out (that still sounded good!) Looks like the consensus is firmly against the Katana. |

| Ron, I get a good satisfied sound with a Katana 100 and it has a low setting on up to 50 then 100 watts. It's lighter than a Nashville 112 but not smaller. I think Stephen has the right solution to your question. Low volume and great sound can be a problem for bigger amps. |

Maybe one of the mini amp heads like the Quilter 101 or Milkman “The Amp� Then you could leave it out for use with headphones and run the line out into the Nashville from time to time? Or sell the 112 and get a lightweight 1x12 cab with a neo speaker?

don't be afraid to check out the DV MARK Little JAZZ, the model with the 12. I now use one on my bi-monthly shows . Rated at 45 watts.
It weighs around 20 lbs, has reverb and a headphones out as well.
New at $499, used in the $300 / $350 range if you can find one. GC has them now and then on the used site.
