Trying to change the pickup height on the counterforce neck of my LLIII. It would seem the three screws in the neck surrounding the pickup would change the pickup height but they don’t appear to do anything on my neck.
Is there a trick to this due to the counterforce, or am I missing something basic here?
Standard emmons single coil pickups.

The pickup is held to the pickup backing plate by 4 screws. These have to be tight.

The adjustment for height should be the 3 screws that go through the neck. There should be springs on those screws that push against the backing plate allowing you to adjust the height.

On the LeGrande III's, the three screws through the neck of the LL3's do nothing. The counterforce unit is screwed to the body of the guitar and does not make contact with the neck. There should be a spring under the 4 pickup mounting holes that allow you to adjust the height of the pickup. When changing pickups, remove the old one, leaving the springs in the holes of the counterforce unit, then mount the replacement pickup in the same place. Some of the non-Emmons pickups will not fit the LeGrande III's because of the distance between the top of the counterforce unit and the strings.

Bill - That is how most steels work, but it appears different on my LLIII

Dave - so are you saying that the four screws around the base of the pickup are the mounting screws -and- the height adjustment screws? Or are the springs you're referencing adjusted some other way? Thank you!

The springs are seated in 4 threaded holes in the Counterforce Unit where the mounting screws for the pickup go through. Set the pickup on top of the springs and screw the mounting screws down through the pickup holes, then yes, as you screw it down, it compresses the springs and lowers the pickup. To raise it back up, unscrew the mounting screws slowly, evenly and it pickup springs will push the pickup back up. If you have a double neck with a Counterforce Unit on one neck only, the other neck (with no counterforce unit) will work like the other LeGrandes. The adjustment screws will more than likely be the three screws through the neck.
