I am thinking of reinstalling the original tuning system back onto my Sierra Gearless, the system on the steel at the moment works fine, but I am finding it a bit difficult to have to use a Alen key to tune the strings if it is a bit dark on stage, and the original tuning system with the tuning keys would be a lot easier. Is this a straight forward job to do?
Pictures are what is on the steel st the moment, and the original tuning system..
Cheers.

I think it would be a lot easier to pack a small LED light to use on dark stages.

Does the 4 Hex wrench screws in the key plate fit the 4 holes on the 2 Aluminum bars? One of the holes has the allen wrench in it. If the plate fits the holes, Is there some kind of L shaped fingers set of some sort needed to complete the tuner. And some type of cross shaft as a pivot point. If you can find all the parts it may be quick and economically possible.
The other suggestion would be, Take a small flashlight, Bend a bolt that fits one of the threaded holes, Tape to flashlight so it would shine on the hex head screws, So you could use RH to pick strings and LH to tune the strings.
Good Luck and Happy Steelin.

That's what I do, although both my guitars (Excel, Williams) tune with the standard 3/16" wrench. My old homebuild used Allen keys and I pack a light anyway to shine on the fretboard.
I don't know Sierras, but I'm guessing that the new system is more stable than the old one, else why invent it?
