Has anyone been watching the Counry zmusic documentary on PBS the last two nights. Really interesting. Found out a lotta stuff I didn’t know. Also, have a lot of those artists/entertainers on LPs and they’re for sale.

I've been watching. Yeah so far its pretty good and I've learned a bit too.

Lots of lap steel in the segments about Bob Wills and Hank Williams.

it's ok. too many talking heads and not enough music. but, it is a documentary and is similar to burn's past programs.

Love it - highly recommended! The academic narrative is good but the real diamonds are the anecdotes about the legends from the old timers that were there and knew them. Just finished watching the third episode. It ended with the death of Hank Williams, which I freely confess brought a tear.

I've enjoyed it and learned a few things, but I hear where Michael Butler is coming from.
They mentioned Charlie Poole but that was it.
Then in it's chapter going into Story Telling Songs - not a word about Johnny Horton !!
I think there could've been some more highlighting of Instruments and the great players too, but it's covering some bases. Also, I have noticed in the background - certain songs have been edited to fit the voice over gaps which is annoying and feels a little sacrilegious.
Not too sure I'll follow the post 60's episodes as closely.

Exactly. Just like the jazz doc. At least, we got that decent concert before the series.

It would have been simple to check in with the Smithsonian. Here's their podcast, "Aloha, Y'all":

I loved the history. Also, I saw a picture of a steel player with Hank that I could not recognize.
