I just purchased a very nice late 80's model Zum D-10. I am very happy with it except for the fact that my RKL lever will simply not tune. I am dropping the 6th string from a G# to F# with this change. I have adjusted the hex nut until it stops, and it still will not tune. (The F# is sharp). I also feel alot of extra travel in the lever, as if the screw used as a stop needs to be moved closer to the lever. Problem is, it is out almost all the way. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jake Lowe |

Will it lower all the way to F# if you push directly on the lower bar (with a screwdriver or something)?
Does the raise bar move (it shoudn't) when you try to lower? |

If it has a split-tuning screw, it may need to be backed off so the changer can go ahead and lower far enough. |

Jake,
On my Zum the RKL drops the G# a half tone to G not a full tone to F#. I'm no expert but it may not be designed to drop a full tone and that might be why you're having trouble getting it tuned the way you want. Like I said I'm no expert so I could be all wrong. (Wouldn't be the first time. )

There is no split tuning screw. This is beyond my level of expertise. I may just try to have Bruce look at it in Dallas and suffer until then.

If there is no split tuning screw. Many builders use an extra rod to split tune. How many rods do you have in the 6th string raise side of the changer?? Any pulls besides the B pedal 1/2 tone raise??
Life's to short to wait till Dallas. Call the preveous owner.I know who that is. He'll help you if he can.Or just E-mail Bobby Bowman. I'll bet he can talk you right thru it.I've never owned and older model Zum.So I could only guess.....bb |

Are you using a plain or wound string? Some guitars won't lower a wound 6th a full tone. |
