It was great to see and hear Paul playing so tastefully with lots of camera time to boot.Not to mention all the other greats included in the band...thanks Paul

I especially appreciated Paul's nods to the various players on the original sessions...the Hal Rugg licks in "Coal Miner's Daughter", etc. Reverence without imitation.

Wow. What a house band. Ricky Skaggs style and grace. Marty Stuart mando. 1st saw him Williamsburg Bluegrass fest in 75. I remember at 15 the buzz about this 16 whiz with Lester Flatt. Still have pics. Did CMA's and brought them for Marty to see. Cracked up at the green polyester suits they wore.
Oh, and Paul Franklin perfect pure country steel. Makes me want to practice and give up at the same time! |

I caught probably the last half. I recognized some of the musicians....Paul, Vinny, Stuart, Ricky and a few others of course, but the credits went by so fast I missed who was on the dobro?
It was interesting to say the least....and informative. I, for one, did not know that Dolly's "I Will Always Love You" was a song she wrote as her resignation statement from Porter.
Happy to see some country music on TV. I'll watch for it...as I know it will be coming back. |

It sounded to me as though Paul's channel was down and we heard him 'leaking' on to another mic. I may be wrong but if his signal had been recorded you'd have thought that they'd have lifted him in the eventual mix.
Very good camera on all instrumentalists and at the right time - unusual!

You're right Roger. Paul's solo spots weren't up in the mix like the other lead instruments.

| Watched it the first time and it was aired again on PBS last night. Watched it again. Apparently there is going to be more country music shows by the same producer on PBS Sunday night that will last about 4-5 hrs. |

| I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but I was knocked out by Vince's lead ride on Pancho & Lefty, I rewound Paul's intro to Coal Miner's Daughter a couple of times, and I almost stood up and cheered when Skaggs kicked into Don't Get Above Your Raisin' (but would have loved to hear a Paul Franklin steel solo on that one!). |
