Loving Duke Levine's new band with Kevin Barry on lap steel!

Fish Scale was popularized on the David Grisman Quintet's first record in the late 70s. Duke's solo quotes Tony Rice's pattern-based lick from that recording.

They have played regularly with Dennis Brennan at the lizard lounge for many years (are they still?). I think I started going in 2004 and they were already well established. Just an amazing show. Like seeing Tom Petty every week at a bar. Ive seen them play more times than Ive seen anyone else.

Btw Dennis Brennan has another band The White Owls that plays Monday nights at Toad. Also insanely good, totally different repertoire. Also has a great lap steel player, Steve Sadler.

Of course I took up the steel after leaving Boston....dumb. I don't miss Boston much but I miss that music. I plan visits there around Monday nights.
