Close to the bridge is the standard for pretty much all steels isn't it? |

Yeah I guess you're right, Jeff. For some reason it just looks very extreme on this design, maybe cuz the fretboard is only 12 frets long, leaving a lot of vacant real estate in the middle...

It's unusual to see the fretboard stop and have all that open space but kinda cool, I think.

Joe I'm about the same as you in not going over the 15 fret usually with the bar (aside from full bar octave slides such as are common in Hawaiian tunes, but a lot of those you can just hear your way to the right pitch)...the hard part for me would be doing chimes/harmonics without fret markers. But for a person with a playing style that keeps them low on the neck, it certainly converts the upper neck space into beautiful real estate!
