Does anyone know any history around this album? I have just found a Mono Copy for sale on Ebay and I've been looking for this song in particular.

The sound reminds me quite a lot of Santo and Johnny etc. There is also a song called It's Over, It's Done which I heard a clip of and it sounds fantastic. This sound seems to be much different than most of Hal's other work. Does anyone know more about his Solo recording career? |

That appears to be a Japanese release of one of his 6 or 8 US LPs on the Dot label from the early to mid 1960s.

Hi Jeremy, he mentions Hawaiian Serenade in the second video. What is interesting is that he identifies Hal Aloma and Sam Makia on some of those uncredited easy listening albums that were once so common. I have the Favourite Tunes Trip LP (not a favourite of mine) and Hawaiian Holiday which is pretty good. And mp3 versions of some of the uncredited material.
I guess I am starting to "sound like a broken record"  but like most of those players, I prefer Hal's stuff from the 1940s. Its like in the 1950s they came under the influence of Les Paul. Even the great Andy Iona sounds thin and whiny on LP.

| Just got this album today. I'd have to say the highlights are definitely on the second side! Lonely Beach Boy is why I got the album in the first place since it's just fantastic, but then it kicks into a ripping version of Nani Waimea that is just insane! I'd say he definitely gets close to Jules or Barney on this one. And to top it all off after that is what seems to be an Aloma original entitled "It's Over, It's Done". Can't find much about it on the internet, but safe to say I've never heard it before and it's some beautiful playing (Pretty Sure Sam Makia makes an appearance on this one) and masterful arranging. It's a hit for me! |

Thanks for posting. Very nice stuff. Any chance of posting Nani Waimea? As we have seen, steel guitarists are often uncredited on "Hawaiian" albums, But it is even worse for the vibes.

Great stuff, the band really swings.Hal Aloma has to be one of the most prolific steel guitarists on record.
