Wanting to get back to playing my reso some, I just had a Fishman Nashville pickup installed and also got a JD Aura Pedal. I'm getting what I'll call a ringing sound as the notes fade. I 1st thought feedback, but this isn't a screeching sound I'd associate with feedback, more like a ringing sound. Interestingly, it's only present on the open high B and somewhat on the open high G strings. Ringing isn't there as I put the bar down and move up the neck. The ringing is still present if I bypass the Aura pedal and is present on all images on the pedal. My gear is in my sig. I tried various combinations from everything to just going directly into the Power Amp, but can't eliminate the ringing. It's loud enough that I'm afraid anyone paying attention in the audience will hear it. So far, I've only played in my music room; don't know if it would be any different playing out.
Anyone else experience anything like this?
Thanks,

If I understood right, you’re running the Aura into your steel guitar rig?
For a balanced acoustic dobro tone you should run it into a full range system.
To the PA, an acoustic amp, a powered monitor.
You need a flat response which the psg rig doesn’t provide _________________ Olli Haavisto

If the pickup was installed into a spider that wasn't designed for the pickup you might be experiencing the same problem I had with my first attempt. If the pressure against the pickup isn't equal the response will be very uneven and all sorts of weird sounds occur. My solution was to have Kent Schoonover install a Fishman pickup in one of his modular spiders and send it to me and then all was well. The original pickup I had installed in a standard spider by a luthier was installed so tightly that it was damaged and unusable in another install. |
