Production totals for any Fender instrument are something of a mystery. Totally different than Gibson or Martin. |

When this came up a few years ago, Jody Carver who worked as a sales manager at Fender came up with a figure of only 68 for the long scale model.
Unfortunately, he didn't chip in with any information about the later medium and short scale versions other than that "the shorter scales were more popular". All Fender's records relating to steel guitar production were lost somewhere along the line, so we will probably never know.

I wonder how many are still around? I know of 4 in Europe (including mine), two of which are long scale. |

I own one of the early ones from 54.
I don't know if Jody really meant 68 for one calendar year or through the entire run of long scale production, but it was less than 2 years total anyway.
I suspect most were made through the late 50s or early 60s and then rarely thereafter. |

He does say "during those years" which indicates more than one year and, in context, I took it to mean the years of long scale production. |

I'm probably remembering something else. It was in that ballpark regardless. |

A big thank you for all the answers. As usual with Fender the water is still pretty cloudy. |
