Hi all, I bought a Fender 800 off CL last week, and just converted from C6 to E9. (Several sleepless nights!)
Has anybody ever replaced the polished and black screws that set the pull limits? I was a bit rough on them, and a few Philips heads are worn. Any idea where to find a suitable replacement? Also had to solder one of the limits, luckily not one that is active.
Now I will venture into learning how to play!

It's possible to find the correct size replacement screws for the endplate tuners, but a good upgrade that some of us Fender players have done is to use a hex or Allen screw. It's much easier to deal with.

Also I think the old Fender Steel forum has a size, part number and source for the screws. The forum is inactive but I believe you can still read the discussions and threads.

My first psg was an 800 too.
Those screws are 4-40 x 1-1/2". They're 3/16" apart, and the screw heads are ~3/16", so not much room to spare. McMaster-Carr has hex socket screws for replacements, also w/ 3/16" heads, they're here: https://www.mcmaster.com/92196a033
You can add a small spacer washer to all of either the the raises or lowers to help keep track of which is which: https://www.mcmaster.com/90176a102
If you live near a Grainger store, they can sell you all the same stuff too. |

I ran the old Fender Steel Guitar website for years and have worked on dozens of cable-pull Fenders.
Every one I've seen has had partially or fully-frozen large pulleys and very "sludgy" scissor fingers. All of them benefited greatly from a complete dismantling/cleaning/polishing of the large pulley and the whole changer and lubing only with DRY Teflon lube.
There's a complete maintenance document in the Facebook Fender Pedal Steel page files section (essentially it's taken over for the website), plus another document that covers cable soldering if you ever have to do repairs or make mods. The Facebook page has over 700 members with many actively gigging players participating.
