Topic: Vertical knee lever on Emmons student model? |

| Would be interested to know if anyone has installed a LKV on an Emmons GS-10. Would it work okay? Seems like an instrument that could be too light weight, and lift right off the floor. Has anyone tried it? |

Paul, it's doubtful I'll be installing a vertical knee lever on either of my two Emmons Gee Esses, mainly due to their light weight.
Two modifications I have made to both instruments that I consider to be significant upgrades are swapping out the stock one-piece legs for the adjustable type found on most pro models, and installing Black Rock-style necks. The extra weight of the pro legs adds to the stability -- the guitar is far less apt to go scooting across the floor when activating a knee lever. The neck raises the fretboard closer to the strings -- much like a pro model -- and reduces the parallax effect, making intonation far easier, in my opinion.

Jack the neck upgrade and fret board looks nice. Is that available from a vendor or did you make it?

| The mechanism on the Emmons student model is essentially the same as their pro model, so theoretically, yes you could add additional knee levers and pedals, but as Jack stated earlier, due to the lack of weight and the guitat, the vertical will probably make it dance quite a bit when engaged. |

I fabricated the neck on the sunburst GS-10 from a chunk of 1/4" x 5" x 24" maple from Rockler:

I utilized the measurements from the genuine Emmons Black Rock neck that Clem Schmitz installed on my "bowlin' ball" 'mica GS-10:
I cut the maple to size, drilled and countersank 10 holes (five to a side), sanded it smooth, sprayed it with a can of cheap black enamel from Ace Hardware, and attached it to the body with five short screws, staggering them side-to-side. I installed a new fretboard that I purchased from Lynn Stafford in Oregon.
The only critical measurement is centering the twelfth fret exactly between the radii of the changer fingers and the roller nut. |
