I have a '78 Emmons S-10 with typical Emmons 3x4 set-up. I want to add a Bb pedal or KL. Where can I buy the parts? And do I want a pedal just left of the "A" pedal or a vertical KL? Which is easier to add? BTW that would be lowering the 5th string 1/2 step. Any help would be welcome.
Thanks Del |

What ever you desire.Don't forget that parts for these Emmons' are not easy to be found. Most builders or players have some and do not want to part with them because these players like to have spare parts when they want to add some changes.

Some time back I emailed John Coop about P/P Emmons parts and he stated that he was going to make Emmons knee levers and other parts as he has done for the Sho-buds in the future. You might want to check with him for a time schedule when he might be in production.
I know he is having great success with the Sho-bud stuff and might be overwhelmed with orders.

Put it one a lever. You'll want to use it with and against your A pedal.

Delvin - You can achieve that same combination of notes by raising the E's a half-step with a knee-lever, raising the G#'s a half-step with the "B" pedal, and moving the bar back one fret. That's the way it was done in the "old days" and it works just fine.

call Ron Jr. He may have all the parts you need. I recently picked up a VKL kit for my Legrande from Ron.
Concerning the Lever, put it on the Steel.
Can some of the exact phrases be accomplised without the Lever,? Yes of course, but that is true of many many changes on our Instrument.
The idea , as you already know, is NOT to just dupliciate phrases that can be done without the lever..but to ADD the phrasing that can't be done WITHOUT it....
Lowering the B's, very good stuff...I believe thats why it is a stock change on almost all new Steels now...
good luck

About a year ago I phoned the Emmons company and ordered a vertical knee lever kit for my '80s p/p S12 3&4. They put someone on the phone who knew what I needed. He asked some questions to figure out exactly which model I had, and from that he sent me all the parts I needed. I would always try the Emmons company first. |

Ron will send you whatever parts you are needing. He has parts for both the newer LeGrandes and also the old push/pull's.

A push-pull doesn't have splits - raises always win against lowers. |
