Topic: A whole new ERA for the Sho-Bud |

Looks like the "Shot Jackson family" that once built those fine Sho-Bud steel guitars are tooling up for whole new phase in the PSG industry. Folks, were getting ready to witness the reincarination of the Sho-Bud (under a new name of course) but built by the original Sho-Bud family. This is Awesome News and very exciting!

Interesting that the website links a bunch of things together..
The Jackson Steel, Dawn Jackson and Dawn Jacksons music with NO Steel..
I do find that a bit curious..

You mean the "Jackson Steel" don't you??
It won't be a Sho-bud; as David Jackson ain't gunna call it a Sho-bud.
So; NO, there is not a whole new era for Sho-bud; but a new era for a new Steel guitar possibly.
When and if me and John Coop buy the Sho-bud company; we will certainly call it a Sho-bud.....

I can dig Nick....yes in a way "Reincarnated" from the David Jackson design of Sho-bud....
Oh and the "when and if" me and John buy Sho-bud comment is of course the last thing in the world I'd ever try to do...>sho-bud died in 1976 and I would always let it rest in piece....

Now I'm really confused. At the website http://www.jacksonsteelguitars.com/ there's a photo of an S-10 in the lower left corner, then above that another graphic of several strings, with what appear to be two shiny round cylindrical objects concentric with a couple of the strings.

I would think everyone would be excited about this new venture but Ricky and John seem dismayed by it's appearance. I bet the final product strongly favors a Sho~Bud and I would venture to say that David has went to great lengths to make it "sound" like a Sho~Bud but what would I know, my mind is sometimes open.  |

I was told today by a very reliable source, that Fred Gretch has not owned the Sho-Bud name for quite sometime now. Fact is, it was purchased by "Dawn Jackson" (Shot's Grandaughter) in 2001. She made a deal to buy the name back from Gretch Guitar Co, so she could call her publishing company & record label SHO-BUD Music.
I'm guessing that Jackson Steel Guitar Co. USA will be a division of Sho-Bud Music. It's obviously been in the works for sometime now. This is exciting to see David Jackson back at doing what he did best. . . . .building quality Steel Guitars here in Nashville again.

| Doesn't say much from a professional point of view, when one starts to put down someone else's product. Also before they have a chance to check it out first hand. Sounds more like they are concerned about the competition it could cause them. A True Pro at his Craft will not bad mouth another craftsman. Two fine example's are Paul Franklin SR, of Franklin Guitars and Bruce Zumsteg of the ZumSteel Guitar. Either of these gentlemen have never ever been heard or overheard putting down any of the other builders. I have talked with both of these True Craftsman and when they where talking about their craft and the way they construct their guitars, they talk only about their process. They don't spend their time telling you why their guitar is better than another Brand. They only speak of their craft,and not putting down someone else's. These are two Fine example's of true Craftsmen. Thats why you don't see them on the forum putting down the other brands, they are confident in what they are building and that speaks for itself. When you see one of their guitars on the forum, they don't last long, and you don't see too many come through. Mike your mind may be open but its in the right Direction. Mike; nowhere in my posts did I say I didn't like the Steel David is building. My comments are the Sho-bud name issue. I don't know what his steel is like yet; I haven't seen one up close or played one; as why I haven't commented about the Steel itself.

Wow... If Dawn Jackson owns the Sho-Bud name (I thought it was still Gretsch too) then why can't they make them under that name? I'm sure they have a reason.
