Hey All
Was wondering if I can get some help with one phrase from this recording that I cannot figure out!! Its the passing Dominant 7th phrase from the 5 to the 1 chord...
in this case its the passing phrase from the F# back to the B (he does it a few times)
It seems so standard yet I can't seem to get the phrase down!! Good thing is since Ive been working on this, my my Dom 7 pockets are getting a hefty workout
Thanks

So, you got it right, he's going from an F# to an F#7.
The secret is that he's using the 2nd string lowered a full-step (lowered to C# if you're at the nut). Some students guitars only have a half-step lower on string 2, so hopefully that's not you.
Here's the lick at around the 00:56 mark, after the lyric "..this life I choose."

Fret 9:
Hit stgs 4 and 5 together, then step on the A-pedal
Hit stgs 6B and 2LL ("LL" means lowered a full step) and leave them ringing...
Slide back one fret to 8 while completely releasing the knee lever and staying on the B-pedal.
Then slide back one more fret to 7.
Good luck. |
