Hi Everyone,

Can anybody tell me if it's possible to replace a regular mid control with a MID/SHIFT control like on the NV 400? I would like to upgrade a Peavey Artist (with mid control only) to something like the tone stack of the Peavey NV 400/Special 130, etc. Many of you have written about the handiness of the mid/shift control for maximum tone settings (scooping or boosting mids, etc.)

Mike Brown: Does Peavey sell these mid/shift controls at all?

Thanks,

Don

Most tone controls are passive, basically cutting the amount of treble. The variable mid shift would require active circuitry to boost/cut the frequency you want to control.

Don, running a pedal like the Empress parametric eq through the effects loop would work on any amp that has an effects loop. I didthis with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and it does wonders. Also tried it on a few other amps. With a good speaker you can usually find a great tone.

Bill,
Is the circuitry in the old Session 400 active?

I copied verbatim the mid shift circuit from the Peavey Session 400 into a leg mounted box. It ate up a lot of signal gain so I had to add a booster circuit ahead of it to get the volume levels backup. But it worked with my old Evan FET-500 amp.

Thanks guys for all the input. The parametric EQ sounds interesting. I know Wampler makes a nice little unit (Wampler EQuator)that would fit in my Boss pedal board.
