Dale Thomas wrote last night and said he'd been reminded - after some research - that the guitarist on this recording is named Buddy Cornwall. He lived in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area at the time and later moved to Michigan.
The CMHOF website has been updated accordingly, thanks to Bob Kramer. |

Regarding problems playing "Buddy Emmons 9/30/63 Hotel Jam Session Tape": please try updating your Firefox / Safari / Internet Explorer browsers. You might also check if your operating system is up to date. This has worked for a few people. I had to update Firefox before it worked on that browser. It does not work on Google Chrome.
Very sorry for the hassle. Please don't operate a moter vehicle while listening to this tape. |

It works on my older (version 36.0) of OPERA which will run on XP and Vista. It allows me access to services that otherwise won't work on my 2004 computer. I downloaded the MP3 using Opera, and then it played it through the iTtunes player. |

Thanks for posting that--Wow, that was GREAT!
So cool to listen to various Buddyisms and learn that he was playing those lines, moves and figures as early as '63.
Can anybody steer me to tabs of the better known stuff? Not that I'd ever to be able to deploy them but I love following along to better appreciate his genius! |

Posted 27 Jun 2019 3:25 pm Buddy Emmons played single note lines that were fantastic,!
|
|
they were long, they were clean and they were musical. When I listened to his improvisation on the song "I love you because"..the one he did with the piano player on the Ray Price show, I realized what great taste he had in the improv lines he played. Some players play fast but their improv is just noise but Buddy's improvisation was real music....what a great player..his influence will live as long as people play Steel. |

Dad played steel at several places in Chicago in the early 60’s . He told me that one night he had opened the show, then George Jones was due up, and The Big E was playing for him. Dad stayed out on the stage and pretended to be working on his guitar because he wanted to see Buddy playing up close. When Buddy kicked off the first song, Dad said he felt the blood drain from his head and he thought he was going to pass out. He had never heard anything like that come out of a steel guitar.
Here’s a picture from January 1964 of Buddy at the Argon Ball Room in Chicago ……

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |
