Which one of these two guitars do you like the best, and why. Lets be nice. We're just talking about the differences between the two. Thanks for your replies. [This message was edited by Curt Langston on 22 January 2006 at 09:57 AM.] |

I can't speak for the Sierra, but I have a D10 8+8 Ultra Keyless GFI and my next one will likely be the same. Pedal action is wonderful, you can change the strings practically blindfolded and in a fraction of the time you can with a keyed guitar, I seldom break a string between changes, it stays in tune very well--aside from drastic heat changes, I never have to tune it during a gig, it sustains for over a minute on a bad day, has fantastic tone and is a cinch to work on.
It's not as pretty or as warm as my ZB, but in every other way, it is a great instrument. [This message was edited by Webb Kline on 22 January 2006 at 12:08 PM.] |

Hi Curt.
I like the modern looks of both the Sierra and GFI.
I'm a Sierra fan because:
1. The 25" scale neck
2. Mobile/movable knee levers
3. Inter-changeable pickups
4. Nylon barrel in the bellcranks
Wish Gene would offer the option of a 25" scale neck on the GFI keyless version. |

They are both great guitars.
I prefer the Sierra Session because it's heavier, has a colorful fret board, has hot swappable pickups, and has a longer scale length. Also I like the way it looks.
I do like the keyless head of the GFI a little better, because the bigger knobs are easier to turn.
They both have really nice pedal action.
Lately I play the Williams, though, mainly for the crossover feature that no one else has. 5 pedals +5 knees on both necks. The Williams is prettier looking, too. Bill Rudolph has a way of making a keyless guitar look traditional.

I think the 25" scale is the feature that tips the scale for me. |

I like the 25" scale, but going back and forth between different scale lengths is really difficult for me. That's why I've had my Sierra Session in mothballs for the past year. I like to play C6th now and then, and my Williams is a D-12.
Also, my diatonic steel is an older Sierra with a 24.5" scale, and my Fender Stringmaster and Sierra lap steel are both 24.5". The Sierra Session is the odd one at 25".
If I only played one steel guitar tuning, I'd be playing the Sierra Session all the time.
