I've been replacing strings one at a time, as needed but would love to find a complete set. Does anyone sell 14 string sets? Or do you buy a set for 12 and add the missing lowers?
I've used S.I.T. on my Tele's for a long time and really like them. Should I just order individual strings to make up the set? My lowest is .080 _________________ "Just because you're not a drummer doesn't mean you don't have to keep time." Thelonious Monk

I guess it depends on the tuning, but I played gearless Sierra Universal 14's for a few years with the standard E9/B6 set up with an additional G# for the first string and a big ol .080 bass E for the 14th.
I would just buy the U12 set and an extra 11 or 12 for the first. I seldom changed the bottom string, but it is available as a single. Matter of fact, I probably still have a couple laying around here since I've sold all my pedal steels anyway.
b0b sells SIT SU12 sets here: https://www.steelguitarshopper.com/u-12-pedal-steel/ |

Thanks, Jerry. That's what I suspected. I'll buy a couple twelve sets from the forum, but it looks like the .080 is sold out. I wonder if NOBODY every bothers to change out that big ol' bridge cable, huh? If you do have a couple I'd buy them from you. If not the same vintage, I would at least like them all to have the same playing time. Let me know. _________________ "Just because you're not a drummer doesn't mean you don't have to keep time." Kevin,
What kind of 14 string guitar do you have? They are pretty rare so I am always interested in who was building them. _________________ Rittenberry Prestige D10, Dekley S14U, (stolen) ZumSteel D10

Well obviously Deckley. The only others I have seen are Sierra, and I believe Julian Tharpe had a 14 string Sho~Bud. I know Fessenden, Mullen, and I believe Jackson, have built 13 string guitars for Robert Randolph. They would probably make a 14 string guitar. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Is it red by chance? My uncle had one custom built in 1979. It was red. I am thinking that may be the guitar that was custome built for him. How long have you been playing the 14 string tuning. How long have you had that particular guitar? _________________ Rittenberry Prestige D10, Dekley S14U, (stolen) ZumSteel D10

if you need strings that do not come in a normal set, you can call SIT company and they will put together any combination of gauges you might need. if you order a dozen sets at the time they will do them at a very good price....thanks jack |
