Topic: Boss Katana? |

I just played a show on which the guitar player had a Katana 100 (I think).
Unfortunately it wasn't convenient to try my steel through his amp (we were on opposite sides of the stage) but I remain curious about how well these work for steel guitar.
Any thoughts? Are there certain models that are better suited to steel? I like its compactness and the weight. I'm satisfied with playing through my 80XL Cubes but I'm always pondering another option.

Roger, the 100 watter is being sold in Nashville for pedal steel.

I think it has a full smooth sound.
If weight is your issue, then not bad for something that is easier on the joints and back.
Historically, Boss (Roland) has never fooled around when it comes to design.

| I have the 100 watt head (19 LB) and use it with a JBL D-130 speaker. It sounds really good for steel. I have it set on the acoustic setting. The reverb is very good.It is an amazing amp at a low price. |

I have the 100 watt, 1x12 combo. I like it for steel. +1 on the Acoustic setting.
I expected to be dissatisfied with the stock speaker, but it has acquitted itself nicely.
When I look at my LTD-400 it screams "play me please." But my back says "let's use the 32 pound Katana." |

I’ve been playing through the Katana 100 1x12 for two years now, great PSG sound, acoustic channel, touch of delay & reverb, EQ to taste. Also sounds great with my Tele.

| Earlier this week my good buddy, Mark, hooked my Katana 100 to his computer and made big time changes to the overall sound. Seems like I have a new and improved amp. If you have one of these and want to improve the overall sound, find you a computer savvy person and get your amp updated to your liking, |

Hey Ron. Great band and I think your Carter sounds really good through the Katana. I'm new to pedal steel but I bought a Katana-50 to jam around the house with a few months ago and I just couldn't be happier. I'd love to hang out at Larry's garage with a Bud Light and a cowboy hat.

| Gary. That's my sentiment as well. I play a dreaded Sho~Bud Crossover which has a very rich tone. I find the clean channel works better for my taste. |

I went a step further, I have a 100 watt combo but I put an Eminence PF-350 in it. ( just barely fits) one of my goals is to download some Boss pedal patches such as the acoustic pedal to hopefully emulate a Pedabro sound or the T Wah for some of that funky stuff Emmons did on Mojo Workin. The one issue in doing this is the Katana doubles in weight due to the speaker but it kicks!!

I think Ford Cole is talking about a firmware update and then downloading patches/sims/models.
Before you do this on any electronics, 4 steps: first check firmware version. [2] google and see if people have had problems w/firmware update. Blackstar amps seem to indeed have problems, i.e. dead/bricked amps that wont turn on but Katanas seem to be pretty safe in this regard.
[3] see if the firmware has showstopper bugs, the first rel ease 3 in 12/18 seemed to so people reverted to rel 2
[4] And then back up any patches you currently have on the amp
