I have two D10 Zums one with new style bell cranks and the other with the comb bell cranks. They both have 2 black nylon nuts that are located on strings 2 & 4 in the lowest
Hole on the changer. They attach to the reinforcement stabilizer bar in the middle of the guitar that runs from the back to the front of the guitar. I have never touched the nylon nuts since owning the two guitars being that’s the way Bruce set it up. However, what do they do? Thanks for support from you Zum Guru’s.
Also after seeing the video that Paul Franklin did on compensators I want to install compensators to bring the guitar in tune with the first and seventh string with pedals A&B.
I did find that annoying out of tune when A&B are pressed. Not much out of tune but after playing for a good number of years my ears finally are keen to hear the waves on strings that need to be raised a hair. Any guidance on in stalling the compensators is much appreciated.

The ones with black nylon nuts that attach to the brace are return compensaters. Usually only needed on strings that raise and lower I think. There are probably one or two o rings between the nylon nut & the changer. If either of those strings returns sharp from the lower, I would back the back the nut off slightly and then begin turning in on it a little at at time until the string returns true. The temperment compensaters are just another pull rod the goes from a bellcrank to the changer. You could order them from Bruce. He could tell you where to put them or someone that has a Zum that has them could tell you.

To add to my reply, I don’t think Bruce has to older comb type cranks & rods any more but the newer parts fit. You could probably find some of the comb type bellcranks & make or have someone make the pull rods if you want to keep the older one all original type parts.

Frank for compensators for your strings 1 and 7, just add a bell crank to either the A pedal or B pedal (or both) crossrods for those two strings, then put in a rod as close to the body as possible, and route it through a raise hole on the changer!
Then all you do is give that string a bump into tune when you have both of those pedals activated. I also colour the tuners Black on my guitars to remind me which ones are the compensators.
