I have chased tone for a couple years now. Peavey, Evans, Fenders new and old and I came to the conclusion I just like the sound of my old Twin. But, I'm to old to lug close 70 lbs 200 plus nights a year. So, I found KC of Guitar Direct Cabinets and he put together a really nice super well made set so I could split the weight. I loaded it with the Travis Toy TT 15 and it sounds 'Fantastic' right out of the box. I can't wait till it's broke in. Take a look. Shout Out to KC and Travis Toy and Eminence. Greg,
That's what I suspected.
I have an early silver face that I bought in approx. 1967.
I ordered it from Fender with twin JBL speakers.
It sounds great but, you talk about heavy!!

My first amp was a Twin with JBL's. My arms are a little longer than normal because of it. Used to carry it in one hand and a D10 ZB (big-time weight, as heavy as the twin I think) in the other, up a flight of stairs into my apartment. Of course, I was about 21 at the time.

I had Rick Johnson make these. The other thing is that it sounds better with a superior baffle board - I suppose I should get a pic of them loaded with the Twin and JBLs. |

Greg, could you tell me the height of the head cab?
I'm going to split one up, and want enough clearance for the tank, but no taller than really necessary. |

Bill, it is 10.25 the reverb tank fits, But I would go to 11" if to do over.

Here it is kind of jammed back into it's little space I have for it - my wife kind of mandates that all "man stuff" be crammed into the "man's room" haha! I'll pull it out sometime and get proper pics front and back. I have a Fender badge for the spkr cab, but the grill cloth floats about 1/2" away from the baffle, so I didn't put it on. There's nothing about the spkr cab that's Fender anyway - it's Johnson/JBL. |

Another advantage of this set up, is that when playing in a live situation, you can have your speakers behind you, and your amp right next to you so you don't have to get up to change the settings. I had a 3", and a 10" speaker cord made for these 2 configurations. I'm not playing out yet, but plan to have a stand for each when I do.
I plan to get a Vibrosonic in the future, and will have the same thing done with it, as I am just too old weak and ugly to pick up a beast like these things loaded with JBLs. |

Hey Bill,
You might take a look at Mojotone on line. They have a Twin cab (their sku #4000165) that looks nice if you don’t want to build one. Check their site and that sku number and you can get the dimensions.
I was about to do a split on my Twin RI, and then decided to swap out the 2-10’s baffle for a single Eminence neo 15 “. That brought the weight down enough that I can bare lugging it, though I’m not shlepping it 200 nights a year like you.

I originally intended my "Twin" clone to be a head. I built it with switchable impedance, and even a line out, but traded a friend for a Mojo cab he didn't need. I now have a silverface Twin, with a junk cab, and plan to install it in the Mojo cab with the JBL's.
(I will probably build my cab, I enjoy doing them!) |

I built my Twin head cab 13†tall and no problems with the reverb tank. The head weighs in at 52lbs. Any combination of these cabs is significantly lighter than the speakers in the same cab with the head.

Just a reminder that Fender made lots of Dual Showman heads which run anywhere between $700 - $1300 that are basically the same amp as a Twin. I think they’re wonderful steel amps, with beautiful reverb - but they still weigh around 40 lbs.
On the other hand, if you already own a Twin combo, renovating it into two components might be easier than selling it since they weigh so much.
