Hello guys and gals.
This is Rosalee and she is getting a full blown restoration to something quite special. The Body is straight grained maple like all push pulls (with a very few early rare exceptions), covered in Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) and will be trimmed in herringbone. Kinda my way of doing a Vintage Martin theme. I do get a lot of questions about figured wood Emmons, once again they were all covered in veneer as I'm told Emmons thought that was part of their tone and body stability. In the end this will have a Nitro Lacquer finished buffed to a mirror shine.
NOTE: In case anyone is worried about the CITES laws, this guitar will not ship international so I am not affected by this.

I restored one guitar, and actually my buddy Henry Mathews did final mechanical assembly, there is so much work involved in this I will never attempt that again... my hat off to you Mike... _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

Yes Damir, it is a LOT of work and expense. This is why when I do these I try my best to make them very special and custom. This guitar has already drawn interest... I hope to have the woodwork finished in the next week and start prepping for finish. _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

Beautiful work Mike, as usual. You raise the bar for sure. You also have a fortune invested in all those clamps. I'm slowly adding to my collection. They're incredibly handy. |

After seeing these pictures, I'd be tempted to give it a hand-rubbed satin finish... |

Doing a little pre-fit to make sure things look right before I go on.

Thanks guys. The honest drawback to real Rosewood is the cost. The materials are super expensive and of course the finish work that goes along with it make the price tag go much higher and for good reason. Mica is fast, easy, and durable so why not. But there is nothing like the natural beauty of a real wood guitar IMHO which is why most all the restos I do are real wood, finished guitars. _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

Well we are almost done with the finish. A few more coats, color sand, and polish and she will be ready for assembly. This guitar is stunning to me.

Love that Herringbone trim. Between that and the veneer it's certainly going to be a very unique Emmons... _________________ Inlaid Star Guitar 2006 by Mark Giles. SD-10 4+5 in E9th; http://luthiersupply.com/instrument-gallery.html
